Special Note from Mark C. Curenton:

In looking over the Walton County Web Site tonight I noticed that you
had a muster roll of the original First Florida Infantry, Company D,
copied by Lois Danley, listed under the military information.  Although
in the Biographical Rosters of Florida's Confederate and Union Soldiers
1861-1865 this company is listed as the "Walton Guards", this is an
error.  Company D of the original First Florida Infantry was a Leon
County unit.  This twelve-month regiment did not contain any complete
units from Walton County.  Some men from Walton did serve in the unit
though.  Henry Hatcher and Iverson Goodwin joined Company K, the
Pensacola Guards (See page 271 of McKinnon's History of Walton County).

The Walton Guards, who were from Walton County and had served at Camp
Walton during the first year of the war as an independent company, were
incorporated in the second manifestation of the First Florida Infantry,
as Companies D and E.
