It is believed that in the late 1830's, the family of Thomas J. EARLY came to Alabama. His household is in the 1840 census of Dale Co. AL. Listed is a male age 20-30, a female age 15-20 and a boy 0-5. In the 1850 census of Coffee Co. AL, Thomas J. EARLY is listed as age 33, a blacksmith born in SC...with his wife, Celia age 27 born in Alabama and 4 boys all born in Georgia, James M(adison) age 11, William G(illard) age 8, Joseph age 5, and Thomas J. age 3. In the 1860 census of Coffee Co. AL Thomas J. EARLY age 42 farmer born in SC, wife Celia age 35 born AL, James M. 22, William G 18, Joe 16, Thomas J. 10 all listed born in Georgia...these last three born in Alabama: Elizabeth 7, John 4, Mary 2. I have not found the family in the 1870 census???1880 Florida census of Walton Co. Early, Thomas 65 farmer born GA??? parents born MS??? Sealy Ann (this is Celia) 48 born AL parents born in Georgia; Lewis 18 born AL; Annie 16 born FL; Alex 19 born FL; Franklin 9 born FL; Jacob 7 born FL
My dilemma in determining if Celia is my 3rd great grandmother comes from the following questions: In Cass Co. GA 1830's was a marriage of a Thomas J. EARLY to Jane FOSTER/DOSTER. Could this be first wife???? The age of Celia in 1850 census, difficult to read is she 21 or 27??? If Celia was born in ALabama but the first four sons born in Georgia ??? My great aunt does not know the answer to this Celia question either?? As to Pera, Coffee, AL ...Pera and Elton were the communities on the Pea River near Samson, Geneva, AL. this is where the family homesteaded in 1840's. My dad now owns one of the houses that was built by Thomas J. EARLY's grandson, Louis EARLY, my great grandfather. The house is on land that the EARLY family homesteaded.
THe descendants of the first three of Thomas J. EARLY's sons stayed in Geneva Co. AL...I believe Sula to be one of those descendants...I found in Geneva Co. marriage records, a Sula EDGE married Isam RYALS in 1916. I also have a Sula Edge buried in the Earlytown Church of Christ cemetery...area and church of James Madison, William Gillard, and Joseph. These 3 sons married sisters: Elizabeth Ann GARRETT and James Madison EARLY (they had no children), Francis Ann GARRETT and William Gillard EARLY, Nancy Ann and Joseph EARLY (my 2nd great grandparents). I have most of the descendants of these families... I do not have the Florida EARLY descendants. Any information appreciated.

Looking for any information on Nancy Wiggins Sowell. She was the widow of Capt. George Sowell d. 1862. of Covington Co. Al. Sometime after his death, she moved to what was Santa Rosa Co. Fl. She may have lived with Mary Sowell, widow of L.L. Sowell, her mother in law.
Her son Abijah Lewis Sowell married a Priscilla Cobb, daughter of James and Betsey Cobb, who were in Baldwin Co. Al. during the 1870 census, but later moved somewhere near the Yellow River before 1880. I believe this was the James Cobb who served in the 29th Al. Infantry with Capt. Sowell and two of the Wiggins boys.
Some of these people were supposed to be Creek Indian.
My dearest wish is to find a picture of Capt. Sowell to copy for my mother's 84th birthday, this June. She is Myrtle Sowell Bassett, grand-daughter of Abijah.
Thank you, Sharon Dean Agte

I would like to get in touch with anyone from the family of a JOHN F. TUGGLE who was murdered July 4, 1921 near Deerland. I am interested in obtaining as much information as possible on the two men who were hung for this crime, FRANCIS PUTNAM PONSELL and JACOB BENJAMIN MARTIN. They were hung on a double gallows in Crestview, Florida on September 23, 1921. I have recently found that JAKE MARTIN was represented by two attorneys, PAUL G. ADAMS and B.L. COOPER. This murder aparrently made big headlines and was the last public execution held in the state of Florida. I'm interested in obtaining information from the personal files of these attornys and have information that at least one newspaper ran the pictures of these men. I've been unable to locate a copy of that as of yet. I'd be grateful for any information regarding this matter. Does anyone have a copy of the book, Tempestis Triangle written by Judge E.W.
