Okaloosa County was formed in 1915 from parts of Santa Rosa and Walton Counties. The county seat was originally Milligan (1915-1917). Later it was moved to Crestview because of the possibility of flooding in Milligan. Since this is a relatively new county, most people are looking for relatives in the parent counties, however, there are great resources in Okaloosa for anyone doing research in the Panhandle. Don't forget to look in all the surrounding counties. I am starting a new segment. There will be resources for the area featured and posted on separate pages.
