Rogers Cemetery (also called Antioch Cemetery), Duette, Manatee County,
Florida
Rogers Cemetery is a private family cemetery among citrus groves in
Duette, east of Parrish and north of Myakka City. (It is not open to
the public.)
From SR 62, it's 1.4 miles north on Saffold Road to Rogers Road, then
eastward from Rogers Road -- a winding shell road. At the end, the
citrus groves give way to an untouched paradise of huge, old sand pines
and scrub oaks. The cemetery is in a clearing of pure white sugar sand.
A sign "Antioch Cemetery" is mounted on a covered shelter nearby. The
cemetery is approx. 108' x 108' and surrounded by field fencing with
metal posts.
Some grave sites are marked with metal posts, or pieces of stone, or
illegible markers. Each has a carefully-sculpted mound of white sand.
