In 1907, plans went underway for the building of a new courthouse. The E.C. Hoisford Company of Atlanta, Georgia, submitted the plans for the present courthouse. It was to be fireproof and built of Indiana limestone with a maximum cost of $47,000. In March of the same year, the old courthouse was sold for $615 to a Mr. Raleigh Lancaster on the stipulation that it continue to be used as a courthouse until the completion of the new building, which was in November, 1909. The building was lifted off of the courthouse block and moved to its present site today on the southeast corner of Fletcher and Bloxham Streets.
