Confederate Veterans Madison County's Confederate Roll Call: Brady, John W. He was a Captain with the Bartow Cavalry. This Company
was raised under an order from Governor John Milton dated October 11th, 1861,
and was ordered attached to the 1st Cavalry Regiment, Florida State Troops,
Colonel John Bradford commanding. The mustering was done by John W. Brady and
James L. Winter, at Jacksonville, FL, October 14th, 1861. He died 15th October
1873 and is buried in Brady Cemetery, Madison Co., FL. Caulk, James Joseph He was a PVT with Capt Charlie Beggs Co., 4th Fla.
Battalion, later Appointed Sgt. His Co became Co. E, 11th Inf (Finegan's
Brigade); then with Pioneer Corp. in VA. Injured and adm to 1st Div Gen Hosp,
Howard General in Richmond, Va. Later listed as a POW. On 19Apr1891 he died in
Madison Co and is buried at Pine Grove Cem, Pinetta, Fl. Hammock, Samuel Hammock (1834 - 1894) Served in Seminole Indian War
and Civil War with Rold Company, First FL Inf from April 5, 1861-April 14, 1862.
He reenlisted back to Civil War and served until the end of the war. He is
buired in Mt. Haven, Green Berry served with Campbell's Independent Georgia Seige
Artillery.He later lived in Lee, Madison County Florida. He and his wife
Cornelia A. were buried in the southwest corner of the Macedonia Missionary
Baptist Church Cemetery on U.S. Highway 90 in Madison County, Florida.
Haven, John Henry served in Company A, 59th Georgia Volunteer Infantry
Regiment in August, 1862. He was captured at New Market Heights in Aug 1864 and
was a prisoner of War at Point Lookout, Maryland, until the end of the war. He
is buried in the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery on U.S. Highway 90
in Madison County, Florida. Haven, John Shepard served with Campbell's Independent Georgia Seige
Artillery. Though he died in Jackson County, he was buried in the Macedonia
Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Madison Co.
Kersey, Edward Jackson served as a private with Kilcrease Light
Artillery. Born June 1843, Madison Co., FL. Died 10 Jan. 1901, Madison Co., FL.
Kersey, James M. served as a private with 4th Inf, Co. C. FL. (Known
as the men of Madison County). Born 1841, Georgia. Died 17 Jan 1863, Fernandina,
FL. (while in the war). Langford, Thomas CPT served as Company Commander of Co G 3rd Fl
Infantry. He resigned his commission for medical reasons. Buried in Hickory
Grove Cemetery. Lanier, Clem served in the 2nd FL Inf (Madison Rangers). He was
promoted to 4th SGT. He was later wounded by a shell fragment at Sharpsburg and
had part of his left leg amputated below the knee at General Hospital #6,
Richmond. Despite a discharge and being sent home, he still appears as 3rd SGT
of the unit before being retired to the Invalid Corps. He is buried in Pineland
Cemetery south of Madison, FL. Lanier, Robert served as a member of Co H, 2nd FL Cav. He was on
detached service and dropped after Dec1862 (4 mos). Family tradition is that he
and brother James lied about their age to enlist and were dropped when the truth
was discovered. His exact burial spot has not been found, but believed to be
near the Madison-Jefferson-Taylor lines in the Eridu/Lamont areas.
Lanier, James Wiley served as a member of Co H, 2nd FL Cav. He was on
detached service and dropped after Dec1862 (4 mos). Family tradition is that he
and brother Robert lied about their age to enlist and were dropped when the
truth was discovered. James later appears on a post-war roster as a member of Co
B, 1st FL Cow Cav. He is buried in Pineland Cemetery, CR-360 South of Madison,
FL. McLeod, David served in the 10th. Fla. Inf. and is buried at Andrews
Cemetary. McLeod, Henry Warren served as a PVT in Co G 3rd Fl Infantry and was
wounded at Bentonville. Buried in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
McLeod, Zachariah Owen served with the 26th GA INF. He suffered a
wound at Monocacy on 09Jul1864 which cost him his right arm. He is buried at
Fellowship Primative Baptist Church, south of Greenville.
Page, Marion Washington (1840/41-1905) Served with 5th FL INF Co D.
Wounded at Sharpsburg (Antietam), MD. Captured, paroled, and then hospitalized
at Lake City. Married Mary Thomas in Madison Co, FL. Peek, Oscar Fitzallen served with several units: as 2LT for the 5th FL
INF, Co D (Bartow Rebels); as Capt of Co G, 11th FL INF (Bradford Light
Infantry); as CPT Co F, 5th FL Cav; as 2LT and CPT of Co D, 1st FL Reserves. He
is buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Madison, FL.
Redd, George Thomas served with several units: enlisted as 2LT of CPT
Peek's Co (CO G, 11th FL INF), then Company F, 4 Battalion, Florida Infantry,
then as a 1LT once again in Co G, 11th Reg. Was in the hospital for unk reason,
and listed as a POW until the end of the war. He is known to have resided in
Madison County, FL following the war for the duration of his life. Burial place
is unknown. Letters from Lt Redd Prater, James Hezekiah Jr. was part of Co. E, 11 Fla Infantry and
killed in the war in 1863. Townsend, Israel served in Company "E" 11th Florida Infantry. Was
furloghed from Howard's Grove Hospital, Richmond. He died 9/2/1864 in Madison
Co, and buried in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Townsend, Joseph enlisted in Company "E" 11th Florida Infantry He
deserted 8/1/63 but returned 10/12/63. He was later detailed to drive cattle in
Florida. Buried in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Wadsworth, Burton Daniel enlisted 1/3/1862 as a Private in Company I,
2nd Florida Cavalry, Confederate State Army, and was in the Battle of Olustee.
He surrendered and was paroled at Baldwin East Florida on May 17, 1865. He
served on the Constitutional Convention from Madison, FL in 1885. He served in
the Florida Senate 10th District from 1891 for eight 2-year terms until his
death on 24th November 1907. He is buried in Brady Cemetery, Madison Co., FL
Whittle, E. M. served in Co. G, Co. F, Co. H, 1 Florida Infantry.
Whittle, R. served in Co. D, 1 Fla Infantry Whittle, James C. (not sure which Co. he served in at this moment)
Whittle, Caper born in S. C. was killed in the war.
