Halifax Historical Society Museum

Telephone # (904) 255-6976. Hours of operation: Tuesday- Saturday 10:00-4:00. Admission: 3.00 for adults 1.00 for children, Thursday afternoons is donation day, Saturdays are free for children. Located in the 1910 Merchant's Bank Building in Historic Downtown Daytona. Exhibits include: Native American, Ponce DeLeon and the Discovery of Florida, Civil War, Pioneers of the Halifax River Area, World War I &II plus much more. Outstanding research facility containing over 10,000 photographs, vertical files, research library and map room.

Southeast Volusia Historical Society

-The Southeast Volusia Historical Society was founded in 1982. 
-We currently have a membership of 361, which includes single, family, students, and lifetime.
-The SVHS publishes a monthly newsletter, "The Mosquito News" which features current activities, stories, and old pictures of our area. 
-The SVHS owns and operates the New Smyrna Museum of History, located at 120 Sams Ave. in downtown New Smyrna Beach.  Originally a U.S. Post Office,  the building was renovated and just designated a local landmark. The Museum has a large pictorial gallery of local history dating to the late 19th Century; a railroad exhibit which has 3 running trains and is a replica of the old New Smyrna yards of the early 20th Century; an  Archeology Lab plus the Museum is the repository for archeological samples for the County of Volusia.  There are revolving exhibits every 3 months and the permanent exhibits are being developed in a chronological story of our history to include a centerpiece exhibit featuring the Turnbull Settlement of 1768, the largest attempt by England at colonization in the America's. The second floor has an art gallery; a meeting room for local organizations; the Zelia Sweett Collections room and the Sheldon Research Library( open by appointment).
