Joyce P. Keenan    
A funeral service for Joyce P. Keenan (nee', Morgan), who passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Kindred Hospital, Green Cove Springs, Fla., will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2007 at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach. The viewing will be 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at the funeral home. The interment will be at Volusia Memorial Park, 550 N. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach immediately following the service. Mrs. Keenan was born in Port Orange, Fla. and graduated from Mainland High School, Daytona Beach. She was a retired Telephone Operator and homemaker. She loved dancing, growing roses and gardening. Mrs. Keenan is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Patrick J.; two sons, Patrick J. (Doreen), II, New Smyrna Beach and James M. (Carolyn Joann), Ormond Beach; two brothers, Ray (Bonna) Morgan, South Daytona and Carlisle (Vicky) Morgan, Flagler County; two grandchildren, Michael Keenan and Crystal Reigel; one great-grandson, Shane Reigel. Arrangements under the care and trust of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home in Ormond Beach, Fla.
 
 
Patrick J. Keenan    
Patrick J. Keenan, 86, passed away Tuesday, Nov.13, 2007, at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach. The family will be accepting friends at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach, on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. with funeral service to follow. He was born in New York City, N.Y., and joined the Army after graduation. A retired active communications specialist with the Army, Sergeant Keenan 1st Class E-8 traveled the country with his family and was also a veteran of World War II, the Korean conflict, and Vietnam War (serving 2 tours). Furthermore, Mr. Keenan retired from Volusia County as a road and bridge foreman in Holly Hill. He moved to Florida in 1966 from Ft. Bragg, N.C., and was a member of the VFW. His most enjoyable time was spent dancing on the weekends with his lovely wife of 60 years, Joyce. He loved to socialize with friends and spend time with his family as well. Mr. Keenan was predeceased by his wife, Joyce, who passed away earlier this year. He is survived by his sons, Patrick J. Keenan II (Doreen), New Smyrna Beach, and James Keenan (Carolyn), Ormond Beach; grandchildren, Crystal, Michael and Jon; and great-grandchildren, Shane Harrison and Veronica. Arrangements are under the care and trust of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach.
 
 

 

 

Don Morgan

Morgan , 69, of River Trace Road, the business manager and financial secretary of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 756 in Port Orange from 1977 until his retirement in 1998, died Saturday at Avante At Ormond Beach.

A Daytona Beach native, Mr.
Morgan graduated from Mainland High School in 1954 and completed his electrical apprenticeship at the Mary Karl Vocational School in 1961. After he was honorably discharged from the Army Corps of Engineers, he became a member of Local 756. During his career, he served on the Florida Electrical Workers Executive Board for many years and was instrumental in forming the Political Action Committee. He also served as co-chairman for the Kennedy Labor Management Relations Council, vice president of the Florida Building and Construction Trades Council and president of the Volusia County Central Labor Council. A delegate at many IBEW and Florida AFL-CIO conventions, Mr. Morgan was inducted into the Labor Hall of Fame and earned the A. Philip Randolph Award in 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta; a son, Donald, and a daughter, Donna
Morgan , both of Ormond Beach; a stepson, Jim Aeschilman, Apopka; two stepdaughters, Eugenia Hambert, Holopaw, and Janet Skipper, Ocoee; two brothers, Ray, Holly Hill, and Carl, Flagler Beach; a sister, Joyce Keenan, Holly Hill; and three step-grandchildren. Morgan , 59, of Myrtle Avenue, a self-employed property manager, died Saturday at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach.

Mr.
Morgan , a native of St. Augustine, moved to this area in 1941. He was a member of First Baptist Church, New Smyrna Beach Historical Society and Bird Watch and Garden. He enjoyed hunting and outdoor activities. Mr. Morgan was a freelance writer for the News Smyrna Beach News Observer.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Donna; two daughters, Pamela Bell, New Smyrna Beach, and Jill
Morgan , Baltimore; a brother, Neil, Edgewater; two sisters, Elizabeth Bates, Edgewater, and Lona Stommel, Port Orange; and two grandchildren. Bellevue-Cedar Hill, Daytona Beach, is in charge.
 


Daisy Lee Morgan Luxton

MARCH 6, 1920 - JAN. 27, 2005

Luxton , 84, of Oak Street, a former cook at the Sandbar Restaurant and other local establishments, died Thursday at Manor on the Green, Daytona Beach.

Mrs.
Luxton was born in Port Orange, and was a lifelong resident of this area. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach. She enjoyed fishing. Mrs. Luxton was a member of one of the pioneering families of Port Orange.

Survivors include two sons, Arthur Jr., New Smyrna Beach, and Raymond, Edgewater; two daughters, Ella Warren, Port Orange, and Roseanne
Luxton , Interlachen; three brothers, Carl Morgan, Ormond Beach, Ray Morgan, South Daytona, and Claude Morgan, Biloxi, Miss.; a sister, Joyce Keenan, Holly Hill; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Cardwell & Maloney is in charge.
 


Van Morgan

LAKE HELEN -- Van Neil
Morgan , 78, of John Street, a retired 14-year engineer for the Panama Canal Railroad, died Monday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mr.
Morgan , a Navy veteran of World War II and Army veteran of the Korean War, was born in New Smyrna Beach. He moved to Lake Helen in 2001 from Edgewater. A 32nd-degree Mason, he was a member of the New Smyrna Beach Masonic Lodge and the Abou Saad Shriners Temple, Panama. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Louise; a son, Van "Skip" Jr., Lake Helen; two sisters, Elizabeth Bates, Edgewater, and
Lona Stommal, Port Orange; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/ Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Dudley, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.


Sgt. Adam David Quinn

 

ORANGE CITY - Sgt. Adam David Quinn, 22, of 20th Street, died Oct. 6, 2007, while serving in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Born in DeLand, Sgt. Quinn served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division.He graduated in 2003 from DeLand High School.Sgt. Quinn was a member of First United Methodist Church of DeLand, and enjoyed soccer, the outdoors, art, tattoos, and living each day to its fullest.He is survived by his wife of 22 months, Faye, who is expecting their first child in March; his parents, Charles and Sherri Quinn of Orange City; one brother, Asa of Orange City; and his grandmothers, Shirley Flowers of Orange City, and Madeline Quinn of DeLand.Memorial donations may be made to the Adam Quinn Memorial Fund at any Wachovia Bank, or to First United Methodist Church of DeLand, 115 E. Darryl Jones

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darryl Jones, 59, loving husband, father, brother and friend. He passed away at home and has gone to join his beloved daughter, Lyndsey Anne, in heaven. Darryl was born in Miami to C.P. and Marjorie Jones and moved to his little piece of country, DeLeon Springs, 20 years ago. Darryl served in the Army with the 101st Airborne Division from 1968-1971. He was awarded many badges and medals among them being the Parachute badge, Vietnam Service Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. Darryl began his career with AT&T in Miami and retired after 35 years. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, DeLand. Darryl was a lifelong diehard Miami Hurricanes' fan. He also loved fishing and riding his Harley. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronnie; and daughter, Lyndsey Anne. He is survived by his wife, Robin; and their son, Craig Adam, DeLeon Springs; brother, Don Jones, his wife Elaine and their children, Amber, Phoenix, Kolbe and Victoria, from Marco Island; sister, Cindy, her husband, Gerry Krueger, and their son, Jacob, DeLand; sister, Cheryl, her husband, Kerry Knudson and their children, Kristopher and Kailey, Marco, Island. Family will receive friends at Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home Sunday, June 8, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, DeLand, on Monday, June 9, at 10 a.m. A celebration of Darryl'a life and military service will be at his home Wednesday, June 11, at 6 p.m. Donations may be made in Darryl's memory to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129 or to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S.                                 Ernest David Whedbee

November 3rd, 1934 - July 14th, 2008

Ernest David Whedbee, 73, of Ormond Beach, died July 14, 2008 after a courageous fight with pulmonary fibrosis. Visitation is scheduled for Friday evening, July 18th, from 7-9 pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond Beach. Services are scheduled for Saturday, July 19th at 2:00 pm at Volusia County Baptist Church, in Orange City, with Pastor John Reynolds presiding. Burial will follow next week in Knoxville, TN. Ernest was born November 3, 1934 in Knoxville, TN. He served in the United States Army for three years and moved between Tennessee and Florida where he worked as a plastering contractor. He was an active member of Volusia County Baptist Church, and was an avid fan of Tennessee football, the Boston Red Sox, conservative politics and writing, singing and playing music. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Whedbee; a sister Patricia King, and two brothers: Charles and Bill Whedbee; His children also survive: Tim Whedbee, Cindy Morris, Connie Marquette and Becky Taylor; Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and two German Shepherds Nikki and Nanna. Ernest will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, as a man who went out of his way to help anyone in need, and as a person who could make you smile even in the most difficult of circumstances.
