1821 Florida organized into two (2) counties, Escambia (West Fla.)
and St. Johns (East Fla).
1822 Jackson and Duval created, causing changes in Escambia and St.Johns.
1823 Gadsden County created from Jackson County
1823 Pensacola to St. Augustine Road, follows the Old Spanish Trail
1824 Alachua, Leon, Monroe, Mosquito, Nassau and Walton counties created.
1826 Construction of Pensacola Navy Yard begins.
1827 Hamilton, Madison and Jefferson counties created.
1832 Columbia and Franklin counties created.
1834 Hillsboro county created.
1836 Dade county created.
1838 Calhoun county created from Jackson county.
1842 Santa Rosa county created from Escambia county.
1843 Benton county was formed from Alachua, and Wakulla county was formed from Leon.
1844 Marion county was formed from Alachua, Hillsboro and Mosquito: St. Lucie county was created from Mosquito
1845 Levy county was formed from Alachua and Hllsborough: Mosquito changed to Orange county; part of Jackson added to Calhoun county.
