1840 Census Transcription ProjectPlease note that this census is divided into two parts, Part 1 and Part 2. Part 1 contains the data on the numbers of people in each household. Part 2 contains the rest of the census data, or Miscellaneous Schedules. Note that in Part 2, the educational categories do not span the entire page width. These categories for each person are continued in the lower half of the page beneath a GREEN colored line. This will make tracking across the rows much easier. This transcription effort started in Jan of 2000 and was competed 17 Sep 2000. The same procedures were followed as are outlined in the introduction to the 1830 census. Where we were unsure of a letter or name we enclosed it in brackets like [this]. We took particular care to ensure all of the data totaled correctly both across and down to preclude having any marks in the wrong cell. Everything checks mathematically. We are now ready to expand these census data as well to include specific information about each person or family for which we receive an input from a researcher. If you have reliable data on any of the families listed and would like to have your information included in the next update of the census, mail it to...
Attn: Census Transcription Project P.O. Box 947 Pensacola, FL 32591-0947 ...or email the data to the Webmaster of this page. Please put 1840 CENSUS INFORMATION in the subject of your e-mail. All information will become property of the WFGS for purposes of publishing follow-on updates to the 1840 census. Submitters will be given credit for their input. |
