Cedartown CemeteryUpdate August 2006 by Evan StrohlDirections: Beginning in Cantonment at US29 and C-184, drive north [right lane] for 0.1 miles to CR-095A, and take it right. Continue to drive about 6.6 more miles to the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church on the left. The cemetery that is adjacent to this church has been known for years as the Cedartown Cemetery.This cemetery is quite old, and was used perhaps 150 years ago; despite its approximately five acres, it is not nearly full. There were only 120 graves here in 1986, but certainly more now, some 20 years later. Parking here is quite adequate, and the grounds are well-kept, though unfenced. There are at least a few quite old, white Molino pioneers here—namely, the Fillingim’s, but primarily, the interred here are Black. On the outer front wall of the building is an interesting and helpful verbal sketch or profile of the church’s history. Elder M. C. Smith, Sr. is the current Pastor. Nearer the front and center of this cemetery is the headstone of Robert Fillingim, 1765 – 1841 and Esther Boggs Fillingim, wife, 1796 – 1868. Also nearby, John Fillingim, February 14, 1823 to May 2, 1874. These are three of Molino’s pioneers. Other commonly occurring names here are Brown, Burnette, Jackson, Scott, Weaden, and Williams.
