Richard B. Mashburn Memorial Picnic "Family Ties"

Where Hallmon Lane terminates at the Econfina Creek about 3/4 mile north of SR 388.
This year marks the 143rd annual Richard B. Mashburn Memorial Picnic. Since the first reunion in 1865, it has been held every year. Event coordinator Jack Mashburn reckons this may be one of the oldest reunion in the country. The event is held on family-owned land on the Econfina Creek, and will feature food, games, including greased pole climb and inflatables for the creek. Entertainment will be provided by the Millers, a bluegrass band. Bring your own chairs and tables.
Annual Pioneer Picnic

The Historical Society sponsors the annual Pioneer Picnic each year on the first Saturday in June. The Society furnishes meat and tea and everyone is asked to bring a covered dish to share. Entertainment, door prizes, reminiscing, and enjoying stories of early days. The Pioneer Picnic honors those who have been in Bay County over 50 years. Everyone interested in the history of Bay County is invited.
A new addition this year will be the presentation of the First Families of Bay County certificates to those who have proven their ancestor was in the area that became Bay County before 24 April 1913. This project is sponsored by the Bay County Genealogy Society.
Entertainment for the picnic will be music by Lucky Mud with Michael and Maggie McKinney. A Lucky Mud show is a celebration of the lyric. And, when it comes to lyric music, it all fits. Barnes-Gainer Family Reunion: "Loving Our Legacy"

Many events are planned for this three-day event. A welcome reception Friday at the Country Inn & Suites by Carlson will kick off this big reunion. Saturday events include a big cookout beginning at 11 a.m. at McLemore Park featuring food, fun, and games. Later Florence will conduct a tour of the Hillside cemetery, providing the history of our family and the legacy of our lost loved ones. In the evening, a formal gala will take place at the Springfield Community Building on 23rd Street.
